Job boards only show the visible tip

Many roles are filled through referrals, internal moves, recruiter searches, or are shaped around a strong person before a job description exists. The earlier you enter, the fewer people you compete with.

An honest note on the numbers. You will often see "70-80% of jobs are hidden". The playbook explains why that figure is loosely sourced; estimates in the research run from roughly 30% to 70%. The strategy works either way, because relationships and visibility improve your odds compared with applying cold.

What you will learn

Evidence first, then a method you can run every week.

Where the idea comes from

From Mark Granovetter's work on weak ties in the 1970s to Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed, see how the term grew and why it matters more in the online era.

What hiring costs now

A metro Naukri Classified is about ₹850, while a 10 sq cm print display ad in Delhi runs roughly ₹13,000-16,000. See why a referral costs ₹0 to list, and when employers still post.

A system you can run weekly

Build a list of 20-30 target employers, start 8-10 conversations a week, send messages under 100 words, and stay findable when a need appears.

Prices are public rate-card figures from October 2026, excluding GST, and are negotiable.

The 6-step Hidden Market System

Steps 2 to 5 run in parallel, so you build momentum from the first week.

1

Position

Write a one-line pitch with three numeric proof points, then make your CV and LinkedIn headline say the same thing.

2

Target

Choose employers, not jobs. Tier 20-30 companies and spot hiring signals like funding, new leaders and senior exits.

3

Connect

Run 15-minute conversations from your warmest contacts outward, and always ask who else you should speak to.

4

Reach out

Message decision makers with a hook, the problem you solve, one proof point and a small ask, in under 100 words.

5

Be visible

Be found when a need appears, with a clear profile, steady posts, industry presence and recommendations.

6

Convert

Turn conversations into interviews with a follow-up routine and partnerships with specialist recruiters.
